Editorial Point of View

Family Travel Times® (FTT) aims to make your family vacations better than ever — whether your children are babies, toddlers, school-aged or teens, whether you're part of a traditional two-parent family, a single parent, a grandparent (or other relative), or a member of a multi-generation group.

For 17 years we've been making family vacations easier, more enjoyable and most rewarding, always with the same goal: to help you take the vacation you want, bring along your children, and return anxious to head out as a family soon again.

"Vacation" means something different to everyone. In FTT you'll find vacations that appeal to rugged, outdoorsy types and those that appeal to the more sedentary. Some cost a lot; others are quite inexpensive. Some are labeled as educational, while others are purely recreational.

Traveling with children can and should be fun. This works when parents take the vacation they want. Remember, as adults we get much less vacation time than our kids. Think about it. Very young children are always on vacation. School-age kids get 12 to 18 weeks of vacation, more than any adult we know. With the information in FTT, complemented by proper planning, you can take your kids (almost) anywhere.

Traveling with our kids has taught us that each family has different needs at different times. Our children are now young adults and we've done it all. We must be doing something right as they're still anxious to travel with us. We've seen the world through their eyes. Despite the inevitable maddening moments, it's always the best experiences that spring to mind when we think about our many family journeys.

We know first-hand that vacations with children are wonderful and rewarding, though certainly not effortless. FTT researches the best family travel experiences, the best organized programs for families and do-it-yourself possibilities, and combines them with tried-and-true advice.

The vast number of families taking children on vacation has awakened the travel industry. What was once considered "inappropriate" for families has now been redesigned to welcome our participation. It seems that no one is willing to forego a bite of baby-boomer spending. Often, this can make your decisions even more confounding.

FTT can make your travel dreams become reality. There's much to be said for introducing children to travel at a young age when they have boundless enthusiasm for new things. If you wait until your children are old enough to "get" something (other than the fun) out of vacation, you may never experience the magic that traveling with kids has to offer.

Since we don't accept any advertising, we call them like we see them. Some destinations or properties may look great on paper, but lack basic amenities for kids. Some resorts may tell you to bring the children, but only out-of-season and on secluded parts of the property. Publicized children's programs may be nonexistent or little more than nintiendo babysitting. "We welcome kids" may simply mean, "We have video games." Our discerning writers/parents visit the cities, resorts and attractions and report first-hand on what works — and what doesn't.

So, if you're tired of reading family travel articles written from press releases and are interested in the real scoopFTT is the place to turn to.
